Phoenix-based flutist Sherry Finzer and Chino Valley guitarist Darin Mahoney, aka the Finzer Mahoney Duo, have received many accolades and awards for their music. Their first recording, Transformation, received Album of the Year from One World Music in the UK and their second, Trialogue, with 7-time GRAMMY Nominee Will Clipman, won Best Acoustic Album from Zone Music Reporter, the Top 100 chart for New Age, Ambient, and World music.
Sherry and guitarist Darin first met at a fundraising concert in Greer, Arizona, when both were playing with different acts for a benefit for the Wallow Fire Relief fund. After meeting and hearing each other play, they recorded a few songs in the studio, and then decided to record a full-length album together in 2013 called Transformation, which was created with the intent of helping others through their music. As a stage 4 cancer survivor who used the music of GRAMMY-winning guitarist and Windham Hill Records founder Will Ackerman to help heal, Darin, who is also a luthier, now uses several guitars, including is breathtaking handmade koa wood and cedar guitar, and combines his blend of country and bluegrass with Sherry's ever-growing collection of low flutes, including the concert C, alto, bass and contrabass flutes, along with her classical and world background, to create a deeply haunting, beautifully enchanting, and uniquely memorable sound.
The duo has toured together throughout the southwest and has performed at various venues throughout Arizona, including the Musical Instrument Museum, Desert Botanical Gardens, Green Valley Performing Arts Center, The Listening Room, Tlaquepaque in Sedona, and more. In July of 2019 the duo was one of the performing acts on the 14th annual Howling Coyote Tour, which traveled through Arizona and California. They often play at Veterans Hospitals, Hospice and Cancer Treatment Centers. Their music can be heard on the C.A.R.E. Channel in hundreds of hospitals around the world, the Sirius XM Spa Channel, Stingray, Music Choice Soundscapes, US and International Airlines, hundreds of radio stations around the globe. They have also spoken and performed for TedX in Fountain Hills, AZ.
Both artists have recorded, toured and performed with a variety of artists. Darin Mahoney has accompanied a variety of Arizona country artists and has opened for Kenny Chesney. His song Confused from his debut solo album In the Grain (co-produced by Will Ackerman), was used in the documentary Absent. He has recorded two albums and several singles with Sherry Finzer (Transformation - 2013, Trialogue - 2016).
Sherry has toured Australia with pianist Fiona Joy, and pianist Scott Cossu from the Windham Hill label. She has recorded and performed with Native American flutist Mark Holland (Somewhere New - 2018, Flute Flight - 2015), pianist Greg Maroney (Remembrances - 2018), pan-global percussionist and 7-time GRAMMY Nominee Will Clipman (Trialogue - 2016 and upcoming 2019 release), and multi-instrumentalists Tom Moore (Whispers from Silence - 2016, Let There Be Light - 2017) and Cass Anawaty (Majestica - In the Midst of Stars - 2016, Auriga to Orion - 2018).
